  • This individual MUST be 18 years or older and holds a Belize by Birth or Descent Certificate.
  • They must provide you with a copy of a VALID Belize Passport.
  • Recommender MUST also endorse the back of the passport photo with the following certification phrase:
  • “ I CERTIFY THAT THIS IS THE TRUE LIKENESS / PHOTO/ IMAGE OF ( applicants complete name)
  • Recommender must also sign the passport photo below the certification phrase.
  • Recommender MUST complete Section 7 of the Passport Application Form.

The child’s application form must be signed and dated by the parent accompanying the child and whose name appears on Section 6 of the application. However, if the child  is 10 years old and is able to write his name, the child should sign the application form.

The parent that accompanied the child is allowed to take the documents and only that parent is allowed to pick up the passport. Identification will be needed.

An authorization letter can be written up for an adult passport to be picked up. In the case of a child, the parent who signed on the child’s application form must write an authorization letter just in case they can’t pick it up. The Consulates and Embassies now offer delivery services for passports which they charge a delivery fee included in the total.

You would need the following documents:

  • Completed Passport Application form including section 5 in the application form
  • If stolen, a police report must be presented with the application form and necessary documents.  
  • Photo ID (preferably your foreign passport) with name as appears on birth certificate
  • Birth certificate 
  • Evidence that the adult/child is a Belizean Citizen (Nationality Certificate)
  • If Married, Original Marriage Certificate stating name as appears on Birth Certificate or Nationality Certificate, bearing seal of issuing authority and a photo id in current legal status and surname
  • one passport size picture of certified by recommender with the words "I certify that is a true likeness of (applicant's name)" signed.

Both Adult and Minor $165.00USD.  Fee is payable by cash or money order. Money order can be made out to the Embassy of Belize or the relevant consular office.

It takes 6-8 weeks as if you are applying for a new passport.

You would need to apply for Nationality first before you can get a Belize Passport.

You would need to apply for a Citizenship by Registration. Your spouse must be married to you for a minimum of 1 year.

If you are a holder of a Permanent Residence Status you would need the following documents:

  • Nationality Application Form
  • 4 passport size photos
  • Proof of permanent residence: A Permanent Residence Card or a Permanent Residence stamp in your passport.
  • Passport(s): You must present all passports held since acquiring Permanent Residence status.
  • Police Record: You and accompanying dependents (spouse and children 12 years of age and above) must submit an individual police record from Belize.
  • Medical Certificate, HIV and VDRL Tests: examination form needs to be filled out by a licensed medical practitioner and he/she must sign and stamp the form. Tests must be performed by a medical laboratory.
  • Referees’ Identification: You are required to identify two Belizeans who will serve as references. The referees must be a born Belizean, be acquainted with you for a minimum of 5 years, provide proof of identification (voters ID, Belize Passport, Birth Certificate and Social Security Card.
  • Declaration of Renunciation: only Indian nationals are required to submit this.
  • Birth Certificate: this is needed to be submitted if there are any inconsistencies with your name, sex, date of birth or place of birth on any of your supported documents.
  • Marriage Certificate: If your spouse is also applying for Citizenship, you must provide your marriage certificate.

If you are married to a Belizean National you would need the following documents:

  • Citizen Application Form
  • 4 passport size photos
  • Proof of Marriage: If married in Belize you must present your marriage certificate issued by the Vital Statistics Unit. If married outside of Belize, your marriage certificate must be authenticated or apostilled by the issuing authority.
  • Spouse’s proof of Belizean Citizenship: this can be provided in the form of a Belizean Passport, Belizean Birth Certificate and a photo identification or Belizean Nationality Certificate and a photo identification.
  • Passport(s): You must present a valid passport from your country of origin.
  • Police Record: You must submit a police record from Belize or the country where you have resided for the past 6 months or more.

  • Submit application on legal size paper, with minimum scratches and no white-out, at the Consulate.  Applicant’s signature must be consistent with signature on passport. 
  • Documents in languages other than English must be translated by proper authority and signed
  • Translation of documents for Chinese and Taiwanese Nationals must be authenticated at the Regional Language Centre.
  • Documents hold a period of six months validity prior to submission
  • The accepting officer will schedule an interview date for yourself and your spouse. Interviews are scheduled within two weeks of submission of application and held at the consulate. The interview will be held at the Consulate. A receipt of acceptance will be given to you with the assigned file number for your application, referred to as BNA. You must bring this BNA receipt along with your passport to the interview.
  •  Your spouse must accompany you to the interview and bring respective identification.
  • Application will be vetted in accordance with the Belizean Nationality Act.
  • On approval you must visit the consulate to make payment.
  • Accepting Officer will notify you on the date of a subsequent swearing-in ceremony where you will receive your Belize nationality certificate.

  • Belizean Grandparent: if you were born outside of Belize before Independence Day and your grandparent is a citizen of Belize, you need grandparent’s Belizean passport, Belizean birth certificate along with a Belizean ID such as a Voter’s ID or Social Security Card, or Nationality Certificate along with a Belizean Id AND Parent’s birth certificate to show relationship to grandparents.

You are allowed to stay in the country for a period of up to 30 days. If you need to stay longer, you will need to apply for a tourist visa. The tourist visa will allow you to stay an additional 30 days.

You would need to visit an Immigration office and apply for the extension. The permit that extends your stay is the Belize Visitor’s Permit Extension.

You will need to apply for a Tourist Visa.  The visa is valid for 6 months.

You can apply for a Student Visa if the child is enrolled in a Primary Institution, a Secondary Institution or a Tertiary Institution. The Documents you need are: 

  • Passport (should be valid for more than 6 months)
  • Flight Itinerary (itinerary must show expected arrival in Belize and return date to country of origin
  • You must provide an employment letter issued within the last 6 months which clearly states employment details, monthly salary and period of employment 
  • You must provide banking financials which shows the last 6 months transaction.

You must provide the following:

  • Letter of Financial Support Form signed by a Justice of the Peace and accompanied with $1.50 Belize postage stamp.
  • Sponsor’s Identification
  • Proof of Kinship
  • Invitation Letter
  • Employment Letter
  • Banking Financials

Your sponsor can be any of the following:

  • Born Belizean or Naturalized Belizean: They would need to present a valid Belize Passport or a Belize Voter’s ID or a Social Security Card
  • Holder of Permanent Residence: They would need to present passport with the Permanent Residence Stamp
  • Holder of a Temporary Immigration Status: a person holding a Temporary Employment Permit or Visitor’s Extension permit may qualify as a sponsor. They need to present their passport and their immigration status. 

A sponsor can be a parent, children, spouse, or sibling.

To prove kinship, you would need to provide documents that link you to the sponsor. It can be a Birth Certificate or a Marriage Certificate. 

This letter is needed when the applicant is being sponsored. Your sponsor must provide an invitation letter, stating the purpose of your visit, duration of stay in Belize and relationship to the applicant.

Both you and your sponsor needs to provide an employment letter issued within the last 6 months which states employer details, monthly salary and period of employment.

You and your sponsor must provide banking financials which shows the last 6 months transaction.

This type of visa is valid for 12 months.

You need to make an appointment with the Consulate for assistance. The Consulate will get in contact with Vital Statistics in Belize to check if it is in the system. Once information is confirmed, the person applying for the certificate must present an ID such as their passport or social security card and a copy of such ID is needed. 

Birth Certificate costs $2.00USD + $30.00 for shipping and handling

Death Certificate costs $2.00USD + $30.00 for shipping and handling.

Marriage Certificate costs $2.50USD + $30.00 for shipping and handling
